Thematically, my poems are about sensuality, the slip of time into oblivion, and the haunting presence of loss. Craft and linguistic consideration are as fundamental to my writing as water is to life. I do not believe that one can call herself a poet without understanding the underpinnings of both modern and postmodern formalism. These notions integrated with the best lexical experimentation create the best poems, in the act of venturing into the exploratory, but without losing context or meaning. Poems with “feeling in the words” as Seamus Heaney might say, but with interesting words not devoid of profound human emotion or insight.
My father is a sculptor and a storyteller, he is a master at puns. My mother is a philosopher and an architect, always finding a deeper meaning or metaphor, even in physical objects and spaces. Graced with this intellectual environment, the complex ways structure creates meaning is a part of my fabric. The way and how of the search is where delight comes to the page. Poetry is my way of making sense of the world and my method of play.
